First the second day in a row, the Colorado Senate has adjusted it schedule for a funeral. On Monday it was for prisons chief Tom Clements; on Tuesday it will be for state Sen. Greg Brophy’s father.
David Brophy died of an apparent heart attack Friday morning while his son, a Wray Republican, was at the legislature. Mr. Brophy was 83.
Almost everyone in the 15-member GOP Senate caucus plans to drive to Wray for the funeral Mass, which will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church.
Out of habit, the younger Brophy said he almost called his dad Saturday morning to ask how much snow he got at the farm. Sen. Brophy, who talked about his father’s life on a Facebook Post, is grateful the family gathered two weekends ago for their annual card party. Mr. Brophy played a mean game of pitch.
A number of lawmakers were in Colorado Springs Monday for the funeral of Tom Clements, the state prisons chief who was gunned down when he opened the door of home last week.
The Senate is having to adjust its schedule to deal with the funerals, as this is the week the chamber is voting on the “long bill,” or budget. The goal is to vote for the budget on Thursday as the legislature is closed for Good Friday.
