State Rep. , D-Denver

With the debate over Democratic gun legislation brewing in the House on Friday state Rep. Lois Court, D-Denver, noted an interesting conversation she had with her husband, Patrick, earlier this week.

“Are women the only ones with balls to do something about ?” asked Patrick, who noted that all four Democratic gun bills being heard Friday on the House floor are sponsored by women.

Which is true.

Court is sponsoring a measure that requires gun purchasers to pay for their own backgrounds checks – which a legislative analysis highlights would be able to recoup about $1.5 million or more in annual revenue.

State Rep. , D-Aurora, is sponsoring measures to ban high capacity ammunition magazines of more than 15 rounds and a bill that requires universal background checks for all gun purchases.

And state Rep. , D-Boulder, is the sponsor of a bill that would ban concealed weapons on college campuses.

“I think we all have extreme courage with these bills,” Court said.

Lawmakers in the House Friday are debating all four bills in a marathon session that could last into the weekend.
