WASHINGTON — Former Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter was passed over for the top energy job Monday as President Barack Obama decided on an MIT physicist instead.
In December Ritter was said to be in the running for the top energy job.
Ritter was a one-term governor who is now leading Colorado State University’s Center for the New Energy Economy.
The Obama administration announced the appointments of Ernest Moniz from MIT for Energy and Gina McCarthy to run the Environmental Protection Agency. McCarthy currently runs the air and radiation office at EPA.
Coloradans aren’t out of the cabinet secretary running yet as Colorado Lt. Gov. Joe Garcia, a former president of Colorado State University-Pueblo, is still considered a top pick to run the Labor Department.
