Guests who showed up early for tonight’s open house got to watch lawmakers debate the budget bill before mingling with their representatives.

For political neophytes, there were plenty of “ayes” and “no’s” said as loudly as possible, as lawmakers tried to pass or defeat various budget amendments.

Rep. Ken Summers, R-Lakewood, held court with a number of Jefferson County residents terrified that with redistricting they would be lumped together with Denver in Congressional District 1.

Two of Rep. Carole Murray’s longtime friends, Barbara McKellar and Nikki Hoy, all Castle Rock Republicans, stopped by.

Castle Rock resident Jim Porter was looking for Murray’s office and asked House Majority Leader Amy Stephens for directions. It turns out Porter and the Monument Republican have 17-year-old sons so they talked about launching their children off to college.

Rep. Don Beezley, R-Broomfield, who unseated Democrat Dianne Primavera in a close race, gave a nod to the citizens who stopped by his office.

“My entire election margin showed up,” he joked.
