A bipartisan panel discussion on the impact of proposed gun laws at the federal and state levels is scheduled for Tuesday evening at the Seawell Grand Ballroom in downtown Denver.
Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper will moderate the discussion that includes lawmakers U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn, R-Colorado Springs; state Senate President John Morse, D-Colorado Springs and state Rep. Rhonda Fields, D- Aurora.
David Kopel of the Independence Institute and Tom Deland, president of the Colorado Association of Chiefs of Police, will join the discussion.
The panel discussion comes in a week where Colorado House Democrats passed four bills that would toughen gun laws in the state. The measures range from a ban on high capacity ammunition magazines to universal background checks for all gun sales — which are both sponsored by Fields and have garnered support from Hickenlooper.
Morse in the coming weeks plans to present what many view as a controversial assault weapons bill that holds manufacturers and sellers of the firearms liable for any harm inflicted with them.
The panel discussion begins at 6:30 p.m. and is sponsored by the non-partisan Counterterrorism Education Learning Lab (CELL), and The Denver Post.
