Sports and public policy joined together today when Broncos linebacker Wesley Woodyard helped Denver Mayor Michael Hancock and Colorado lawmakers raise awareness for child abuse and prevention.
Woodyard stood on the west steps of the Capitol with the mayor and children’s advocates as part of April’s Child Abuse Prevention Month; a pinwheel garden was planted outside the capitol to honor children who are at risk for being abused or neglected.
Woodyard then visited with lawmakers inside the state Capitol, who were glad to have their pictures taken with the sports star and vote for a resolution he supported recognizing April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Colorado.
It read, in part, “That we call upon all citizens to educate themselves on how they can be the one person to make a difference in the life of a child and prevent child abuse and neglect.”
